Our student wins Kenan Thompson Competition

Congrats to all nine of our students that performed on April 14, 2019 at Caroline’s on Broadway. We are so proud of all the performers. Last year Judah won 2nd place and has since performed at the Hollywood Improv and visited SNL backstage with Kenan Thompson.  This year our student, Carolyn, won the day. There were 16 competitors selected to perform. Eight were from our camps and classes. Judah and other winners for last year from LA, Atlanta and Chicago headlined the show.

‘SNL’ star Kenan Thompson crowns this 12-year-old the funniest kid in America

Carolyn White has some thoughts about how New York City shops come up with their names.

“Like the clothing store on the East Side, A Second Chance. That basically means your style failed the first time,” said the 12-year-old. “Or what about Drug Loft? That totally doesn’t stir up suspicion.”

The Upper West Sider was named the funniest kid in the country last Sunday, at Kenan Thompson’s Ultimate Comedy Experience — a stand-up competition for kids ages 8 to 18.

Carolyn came to us for the last week of camp in 2018. She has since attended just about every classes since (weekly sessions the past fall, winter and spring) as well as all bonus sessions and quite a few professional shows at the club.

She is all in!

While we do not advertise our camp as a place to become a professional comic – we focus on having fun and teaching invaluable life skills – Carolyn joins a growing list of students turning towards acing and comedy as a career choice.

A number of former teens students have become interns and professional members of our company.

Now in college, Steven Prestia has been with us since 13yo, attending many classes and camp sessions. During the summer Steven performs with the professional Improv company of EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH (AKA Improv 4 Kids) and is returning as a camp counselor. Steven can be found year round performing on the comedy stages of Long Island.

Brandon Ford was our student from a high school program in Queens. Upon graduation Brandon became an intern and eventually a full time cast member. Now Brandon is launching a music career, working with a producer to release original songs.  Brandon still appears with the professional cast.

We have many teens in a scholarship program this summer. Many of these teens will potentially be invited to join the company upon graduation as interns.
